In the Greek myth of Pandora, Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gave it to humans.
Prometheus was a Titan associated with intelligence, craft, and foresight. In the mythic sequence connected with Pandora, he obtained fire for humanity, angering Zeus and provoking a divine punishment.
Zeus’s response included creating Pandora and sending her to Prometheus’s brother Epimetheus. The two episodes are therefore linked: the theft of fire explains why Zeus imposed punishment, while Pandora’s arrival explains how suffering entered human life in Hesiod’s account.
Prometheus’s story became a lasting symbol of rebellion, knowledge, invention, and sacrifice. Later authors often made him more heroic than Hesiod’s original presentation, and modern science-fiction and political writing frequently reuse his name and imagery.
