In the Greek myth of Pandora, which Titan stole fire for humanity before Pandora arrived?

The story behind the answer

In the Greek myth of Pandora, Prometheus stole fire for humanity before Pandora arrived.

Prometheus is a Titan associated with foresight, intelligence, and humanity’s welfare. In the best-known version of his fire myth, he took fire from the gods and gave it to humans, enabling technology, cooking, and crafts.

Zeus punished Prometheus for this act and, in Hesiod’s account, devised Pandora as a punishment connected with the same conflict. Pandora was sent to Epimetheus, Prometheus’s brother, carrying the jar that later released troubles into the human world.

The fire episode and the Pandora story are related but not identical scenes. Other ancient writers and later artists developed Prometheus’s story in different ways, including his long punishment on Mount Caucasus. The Titan’s name is therefore central to the background of Pandora’s myth, even though Prometheus does not open the jar.
