In The Fly, the scientist transformed by the teleportation experiment is Seth Brundle.
Seth Brundle is played by Jeff Goldblum in David Cronenberg’s 1986 science-fiction horror film. Brundle invents teleportation pods and successfully transports himself, but a housefly enters one of the pods during a later experiment. The machine merges the two organisms at a genetic level.
The film follows Brundle’s gradual physical and psychological transformation into a fly-like creature. Ronnie Quaife, played by Geena Davis, is the journalist who documents his work and becomes emotionally involved with him. Quaife is not the scientist, and Jeff Goldblum is the actor rather than the character’s name.
Cronenberg’s film is a remake of the 1958 film The Fly, which starred David Hedison as scientist André Delambre. Both films draw on the same basic premise but use different character names and emphasize different aspects of scientific horror.
