In the classic Monopoly board game, a house on Mediterranean Avenue costs $50.
Mediterranean Avenue is the first purchasable property after GO on the standard American board. It belongs to the brown property group, together with Baltic Avenue. The printed building cost for both brown properties is $50 per house, making this the cheapest house price in the classic game.
A player must own every property in a color group before buying houses there. Houses must also be distributed evenly across that group: a player cannot put a second house on one brown property while the other brown property has none. Once four houses are placed on a property, the player may generally exchange them for a hotel, subject to the edition’s rules and the bank’s supply.
The $50 figure is the construction cost, not the property’s purchase price. Mediterranean Avenue itself costs $60, while its unimproved rent is $2. These separate values are a frequent source of confusion.
