Pandora is the main planet where the first Borderlands game takes place.
Gearbox Software’s Borderlands, released in 2009, is set on the harsh planet Pandora. The game follows four Vault Hunters searching for a legendary Vault while fighting bandits, corporations, and hostile creatures. Its setting combines science-fiction frontier imagery with a distinctive comic-book visual style and fast-paced cooperative shooting.
Pandora is a different fictional setting from the moon in James Cameron’s Avatar. The Borderlands planet is largely arid and dangerous, with scattered settlements, abandoned technology, and dangerous wildlife. The series later expands to other worlds, including Promethea, Eden-6, and Nekrotafeyo.
The title’s “Vault” refers to ancient alien structures believed to contain extraordinary technology or treasure. In the first game, the Vault’s opening becomes a major plot event, but the planet Pandora remains the central location for the campaign and its connected downloadable content.
