In the Avatar film series, what is the name of the Na’vi spiritual network or deity?

The story behind the answer

In the Avatar film series, the Na’vi spiritual network or deity is called Eywa.

Eywa is central to the Na’vi worldview in James Cameron’s Avatar universe. The Na’vi understand Eywa as a guiding, living presence connected with Pandora’s plants, animals, and ancestral memories. The idea combines spiritual belief with the moon’s biological interconnectedness.

In Avatar, the Tree of Souls is a sacred site where Na’vi can communicate with Eywa through neural connections. The Omatikaya also treat Hometree and other parts of the environment as culturally and spiritually significant. The film presents Eywa as more than an abstract religion: Pandora’s ecosystem contains a planet-wide network capable of storing and transmitting information.

Eywa is sometimes simplified as a conventional goddess, but the films portray the concept as both deity and ecological network. The word should also be distinguished from tsaheylu, the bond formed when a Na’vi links with another organism. Eywa appears in the first film and in later Avatar stories.
