In the 2026–27 Premier League opener, which club did Everton defeat 2–0?

The story behind the answer

Everton defeated Crystal Palace 2–0 in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.

The match was played at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday 22 August 2026. Everton controlled the contest well enough to keep a clean sheet and began the campaign with three points in their new home surroundings.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opened the scoring, and Thierno Barry added the second goal after half-time. The victory was Everton’s first win in eight top-flight matches and ended a run of difficult results dating from the previous campaign.

The match also marked a challenging competitive debut for Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage. Palace were unable to score, and defender Chadi Riad was forced off with an apparent knee injury. Everton’s win should not be confused with Chelsea’s 3–2 victory at Fulham later in the opening round: both involved London-based opponents, but Everton’s match was a 2–0 home success.
