In the 2009 video game Borderlands, the story takes place on the planet Pandora.
Borderlands is a first-person shooter and role-playing game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. Its main setting is Pandora, a harsh frontier world where corporations, mercenaries, and Vault Hunters search for an ancient alien Vault. The game combines gun-based combat with character classes and randomized weapon generation.
Pandora’s name is a deliberate reference to the Greek myth. The game’s central mystery treats the planet as a place that may release extraordinary power, echoing the idea of a container whose opening has major consequences. The science-fiction setting, however, is not a retelling of the ancient story.
Later games in the series visit other planets, including Promethea and Athenas. Those names can cause confusion, but the original Borderlands campaign is centered on Pandora.
