The 2009 anime adaptation of Pandora Hearts broadcast 25 episodes. The television series was produced by Xebec and aired in Japan from April through September 2009.
Pandora Hearts adapts Jun Mochizuki’s manga, following Oz Vessalius after he is cast into the Abyss and forms a contract with Alice, the Bloodstained Black Rabbit. The anime uses the series’ fantasy mystery setting, including the organization Pandora and the dangerous entities known as Chains.
The anime’s 25-episode run does not cover the entire manga, which continued until 2015 and was collected in 24 volumes. This difference between the television ending and the completed source material is a common point of confusion for viewers. The anime should also be distinguished from other works titled Pandora’s Box or Pandora and the Flying Dutchman, which are unrelated films or games.
