In the 2006 film Quinceañera, what is the name of the older relative in Carlos’s household?

The story behind the answer

Uncle Tomas is the older relative in Carlos’s household in the 2006 film Quinceañera.

When Magdalena is forced to leave her family home, she stays with her cousin Carlos and their great-granduncle, Uncle Tomas. His household becomes a refuge for both younger characters and provides the setting for much of the film’s examination of family loyalty and social judgment.

Uncle Tomas is portrayed by Chalo González. The character’s role is especially important because he offers acceptance in contrast with the rejection Magdalena and Carlos experience elsewhere. The household is therefore more than a convenient location; it represents an alternative model of family.

Quinceañera was directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland and released in 2006. The name is sometimes shortened in recollections of the plot, but the film’s credited character is Uncle Tomas.
