Carlos is Magdalena’s cousin in the 2006 film Quinceañera, and he lives with Tomás.
When Magdalena becomes pregnant, her family rejects her and she moves into the Echo Park home shared by Carlos and Tomás. Carlos is gay, and his relationship with Tomás forms a central part of the film’s examination of family acceptance and social prejudice. The household becomes an alternative source of support for Magdalena.
Carlos is played by Jesse Garcia, while Tomás is played by Luis Orozco. Their characters connect two storylines that the film places alongside Magdalena’s coming-of-age experience: a teenager facing family rejection and adults whose relationship is also judged by others.
The character should not be confused with any figure from the 1987 Mexican telenovela Quinceañera. The film and series share a title but tell different stories and use different casts.
