Adela Noriega played Maricruz Fernández in the 1987 Mexican telenovela Quinceañera.
The series was produced by Televisa and became one of the best-known television dramas built around teenage characters and coming-of-age themes. Noriega starred opposite Thalía, whose role helped make the program especially notable in discussions of Mexican popular culture.
The title uses the Spanish term for the fifteenth-birthday celebration, but the program is a scripted telenovela rather than a documentary about ceremony customs. Its story uses adolescence, friendship, family, romance, and social pressures as dramatic subjects.
The series is sometimes confused with the 2006 independent film Quinceañera, which is a separate production directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. The television series and the film share a title but have different casts, formats, and plots.
