In the 1975–76 Schoolhouse Rock! America Rock series, what was the official name of its U.S. history and civics sub-series?

The story behind the answer

The Schoolhouse Rock! sub-series devoted to U.S. history and civics was called America Rock.

America Rock was the program’s third major subject cycle. It aired during 1975 and 1976, making its timing especially appropriate for the United States Bicentennial. The episodes turned topics such as independence, the Constitution, government, and voting rights into short animated songs.

Several America Rock segments became especially well known. “The Preamble” presented the opening of the U.S. Constitution in musical form, while “I’m Just a Bill” explained how a bill moves through the legislative process. Other episodes covered the American Revolution and women’s suffrage.

A common mix-up is calling this cycle “History Rock.” That name appeared on a later 1987 home-video release, but the original television sub-series was America Rock. The cycle’s connection to the Bicentennial helped introduce foundational American history to a large young audience.
