Captain Pike is held captive on Talos IV in the Star Trek episode “The Cage.”
“The Cage” is the first pilot episode produced for Star Trek. It features Captain Christopher Pike, played by Jeffrey Hunter, whose ship, the USS Enterprise, investigates a distress signal from Talos IV. The Talosians, inhabitants of the planet, use powerful mental illusions and seek to preserve their species through human captives.
The episode was not broadcast as a regular episode when first produced. After NBC rejected the original pilot, a second pilot, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” helped lead to the series being commissioned. Footage from “The Cage” was later incorporated into the two-part episode “The Menagerie.”
Talos IV is sometimes confused with famous Star Trek worlds such as Vulcan, Romulus, and Qo’noS. Those planets are important elsewhere in the franchise, but Talos IV is the specific setting of Pike’s captivity in “The Cage.”
