In the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill, on which hill did most of the fighting take place?

The story behind the answer

Most of the fighting in the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill took place on Breed's Hill.

American forces occupied Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill on the Charlestown Peninsula during the Siege of Boston. They built their main redoubt on Breed's Hill because it was closer to Boston and offered a strategically important position overlooking the harbor and British-held city.

The battle is nevertheless named after Bunker Hill, which stood farther north on the peninsula and was the original objective of the colonial troops. This naming has caused a long-standing historical mix-up: Bunker Hill was involved in the operation, but Breed's Hill saw the main combat.

On June 17, 1775, British troops launched repeated assaults against the American fortifications. They captured the redoubt on their third attack, forcing the colonial forces to retreat. The British technically won, but suffered much heavier casualties, making the battle an important early demonstration of colonial resistance.
