In Terry Pratchett's Discworld, the Ankh-Morpork City Watch operates in the city of Ankh-Morpork.
Ankh-Morpork is Discworld's largest and most important urban setting, a sprawling, commercially powerful city divided by the River Ankh. The city is ruled by the Patrician, while the Watch handles policing, investigations and increasingly complex public-order problems. Its headquarters eventually becomes Pseudopolis Yard, a name that humorously echoes London's Scotland Yard.
The Watch is central to novels led by Commander Sam Vimes, including Guards! Guards!, Men at Arms, Feet of Clay, Jingo, The Fifth Elephant, Night Watch, Thud! and Snuff. What begins as a battered and ineffective force gradually becomes a more professional organization, recruiting dwarfs, trolls, undead citizens, a vampire, a werewolf and other unconventional officers.
Readers sometimes confuse Ankh-Morpork with Sto Lat, Lancre or Quirm, which are also notable Discworld locations. Those places feature in other stories, but the City Watch's home base—and the setting of its main series—is Ankh-Morpork.
