In Street Fighter III, which character is a retired British boxer?

The story behind the answer

Dudley is the retired British boxer in Street Fighter III.

Dudley debuted in Street Fighter III: New Generation in 1997 as an upper-class English heavyweight boxer. Capcom designed him as a deliberate contrast to Balrog, the series’ earlier boxer, who is portrayed as a villainous American fighter. Dudley is refined, courteous, and intensely focused on technical perfection, often appearing in formal clothing and associated with tea and country-house life.

His backstory says that his father was a successful athlete and businessman whose finances later collapsed. Dudley recovered the family’s losses through his boxing career, giving the “retired” description a specific context: he had already achieved a distinguished career before returning to competition and travel.

In Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Dudley makes a comeback, wins a championship, and receives the honorary title “Sir,” becoming Sir Dudlington. Players sometimes confuse him with Balrog because both are boxers, or with Mike and Joe, earlier boxing characters from the original Street Fighter and Street Fighter II-era lore. Dudley is the canonical British gentleman-boxer associated with Street Fighter III.
