In Stephen King’s novel Under the Dome, what is the name of the isolated Maine town?

The story behind the answer

Stephen King’s novel Under the Dome is set in the isolated Maine town of Chester’s Mill.

An invisible, nearly indestructible dome suddenly surrounds the town, cutting residents off from the outside world. The plot follows the town’s political, social, and survival crises as people search for answers and resources become limited.

Chester’s Mill is a fictional community, like several other Maine settings in King’s work. It should not be confused with Derry, Castle Rock, or Jerusalem’s Lot, which belong to different stories and have separate characters and histories.

Under the Dome was published in 2009. The novel’s large cast includes Dale Barbara, a former Army captain, and James Rennie, a powerful local politician. A television series based on the premise premiered in 2013, but it made substantial changes to the book’s story.
