In Stephen King’s novel The Tommyknockers, Bobbi Anderson discovers the buried spacecraft.
Bobbi is a writer living near Haven, Maine. While walking on her property, she trips over a metallic object emerging from the ground and begins uncovering an enormous alien spacecraft. The discovery exposes the town to the ship’s influence, which gradually changes the inhabitants and gives them unusual abilities.
Her friend Gardener Brown becomes central to the effort to understand what is happening. Bobbi’s writing career and the town’s transformation are intertwined, creating a story about creativity, technology, addiction, and the dangers of surrendering human judgment to an alien power.
The Tommyknockers was published in 1987. Bobbi Anderson should not be confused with Ruth McCausland, another important Haven resident, or with Gardener Brown, who is Bobbi’s close friend and ally.
