In Stephen King’s novel The Talisman, Jack Sawyer reaches a parallel world called the Territories.
The Territories exist alongside the familiar United States and are connected to it in unusual ways. Jack, a twelve-year-old boy, travels between the two worlds during his quest to obtain the Talisman, an object that may save his dying mother.
The novel was written by Stephen King and Peter Straub and published in 1984. Its fantasy adventure structure differs from the more conventional horror framework of many King novels, although it still includes danger, monsters, and unsettling supernatural forces.
The Territories are sometimes confused with Mid-World, the setting associated with King’s Dark Tower series. The two fictional realms are distinct, even though King’s wider multiverse encourages connections and references across separate books.
