In Stephen King’s novel The Regulators, what pen name appeared on the original cover?

The story behind the answer

The original cover of Stephen King’s novel The Regulators used the pen name Richard Bachman.

The Regulators was published in 1996 as a companion novel to Desperation. King released the two books under different names even though they share several character names and thematic elements. The Regulators appeared as a Richard Bachman novel, while Desperation was credited to Stephen King.

Richard Bachman began as a deliberately separate author identity used by King for earlier books, including Rage, The Long Walk, Roadwork, and The Running Man. The Bachman identity was publicly exposed in 1985 after a bookseller investigated the similarities between the author biographies.

The cover credit is distinct from John Swithen, another name King used for the short story “The Crate.” Beryl Evans is associated with a pseudonymous children’s book project, not this novel.
