Stephen King’s novel 11/22/63 follows the time traveler Jake Epping.
Jake is an English teacher from 2011 who learns that a diner’s pantry can transport a person to 1958. He is asked to remain in the past and prevent the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. The premise combines historical fiction, romance, suspense, and time-travel rules.
While living in the past, Jake uses the name George Amberson. That alias is important within the story, but it is not the protagonist’s real name and is therefore a common source of confusion.
King published 11/22/63 in 2011. The novel’s title refers directly to the date of Kennedy’s assassination, while the story also examines how changing one event can produce unexpected consequences in the future.
