In StarCraft II, the Protoss air unit that launches interceptors is the Carrier.
The Carrier is a large Protoss capital ship that attacks by deploying autonomous Interceptors. The Carrier itself does not fire a conventional direct weapon at nearby enemies; instead, its Interceptors fly toward targets and deliver the damage. This lets Carriers project power over a wide area while remaining behind their supporting army.
Carriers are expensive late-game units and require substantial resources and production time. Their effectiveness depends on maintaining enough Interceptors, protecting the fleet from direct counters, and coordinating with other Protoss units. A large Carrier force can be powerful, but it is vulnerable when unsupported or caught by suitable anti-air forces.
The Void Ray and Tempest are also Protoss air units, but neither launches Interceptors. Void Rays attack with a focused beam, while Tempests provide long-range firepower. The Phoenix is a smaller mobile fighter with a different weapon and tactical role.
