In snooker, how many points is the pink ball worth?

The story behind the answer

In snooker, the pink ball is worth six points.

The pink is the second-highest-valued colour on a standard snooker table, behind the black, which is worth seven points. It is normally positioned between the blue spot and the top cushion.

During the opening part of a frame, players alternate between potting a red and then a colour. After a red is potted, the pink may be selected as the scoring colour. When all reds have left the table, the colours are potted in ascending value: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black.

The pink is sometimes confused with the red because both can appear close together in tactical play, but they have different roles and values. A pink-and-black sequence after every red would produce a higher break than repeatedly choosing the lower-valued colours.
