The World Snooker Championship final is played over a maximum of 35 frames.
The first player to win 18 frames becomes champion, so the final is described as best of 35. This long format allows the match to be played across several sessions, unlike many earlier-round matches that use shorter distances.
The format helps test sustained performance, tactical patience and recovery over multiple days. A player can lead significantly and still face a long contest before the title is secured, while a trailing player has more opportunity to stage a comeback.
This is different from the championship’s qualifying rounds and many other professional tournaments, where match lengths vary. The World Championship final is also distinct from the best-of-19 format commonly used in the early rounds of the Crucible event.
