In Scream, what name is used for the masked killer who terrorizes Woodsboro?

The story behind the answer

In Scream, the masked killer terrorizing Woodsboro is known as Ghostface.

Ghostface is not one fixed person across the series. Different characters adopt the costume and identity, often using telephone calls, horror-film knowledge, and staged clues to frighten victims. In the first film, the identity is tied to the central mystery surrounding Sidney Prescott and the Woodsboro murders.

Wes Craven directed the 1996 film, written by Kevin Williamson. Neve Campbell played Sidney, Courteney Cox played reporter Gale Weathers, and David Arquette played deputy Dewey Riley. The elongated white mask was based on a commercially available design and became one of the most recognizable images in modern horror. Ghostface differs from Michael Myers, Leatherface, and other named killers because the identity changes from story to story.
