In quinceañera tradition, what are the male members of the ceremonial court commonly called?

The story behind the answer

The male members of a quinceañera’s ceremonial court are commonly called chambelanes.

Chambelanes generally accompany the honoree during formal entrances, photographs, dances, and other planned parts of the celebration. They may be relatives, friends, or classmates chosen by the quinceañera and her family.

The corresponding female court members are called damas. A traditional court often pairs chambelanes with damas, although modern celebrations may use mixed groups, fewer attendants, or no court at all.

The term is not the same as padrino. Padrinos are sponsors or godparents who may help provide items or services for the celebration. Mariachi refers to a style of Mexican ensemble music, not to a court member.
