In Pixar’s Coco, Mamá Imelda sings “La Llorona” during the talent competition in the Land of the Dead.
The performance is one of the film’s most dramatic musical moments. Imelda initially dislikes music because she associates it with the husband who abandoned her and their daughter, but she eventually performs to help Miguel and Héctor.
“La Llorona” is a traditional Mexican song about the legendary Weeping Woman. Coco uses a new arrangement of the song rather than presenting it as an original composition written specifically for the film.
The scene is sometimes confused with “Remember Me,” the film’s central original song, or “Un Poco Loco,” which Miguel and Héctor perform earlier. Imelda’s performance is specifically “La Llorona.”
