In Pixar’s Cars, which song plays over the film’s famous highway travel montage?

In Pixar’s Cars, “Life Is a Highway” plays over the film’s famous highway travel montage.

The song appears in a country-rock version recorded by Rascal Flatts. It accompanies the sequence in which Lightning McQueen and Mack travel toward the Piston Cup race, emphasizing the nonstop movement and open-road setting of the story.

“Life Is a Highway” was originally written and recorded by Canadian musician Tom Cochrane in 1991. Rascal Flatts’ version became strongly associated with Cars after appearing on the film’s soundtrack and receiving substantial attention from family audiences.

The song is sometimes confused with “Our Town,” which is used later during the emotional Radiator Springs sequence, or “Real Gone,” performed by Sheryl Crow. Those songs also belong to the Cars soundtrack, but they accompany different moments and have different narrative functions.
