In Pixar's Cars, which legendary race car is voiced by Paul Newman as Doc Hudson?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar's Cars, the legendary race car voiced by Paul Newman is Doc Hudson.

Doc is a Hudson Hornet who once competed successfully in the Piston Cup. After a serious racing injury ended his career, he became the local doctor and sheriff of Radiator Springs. His quiet life changes when Lightning McQueen arrives in town.

The character's racing history reflects the real Hudson Hornet's reputation in early stock-car racing. Hudson Hornets won many NASCAR Grand National races in the early 1950s, helping inspire Doc's backstory and nickname.

Paul Newman supplied Doc's voice in Cars and in the short film Mater and the Ghostlight. Newman, a celebrated actor and real-life racing enthusiast, died in 2008.
