Doc Hudson is the former racing champion revealed to be the town doctor in Pixar’s Cars.
Doc is a 1951 Hudson Hornet who once raced under the name Hudson Hornet. He won three Piston Cup championships before a crash ended his career and left him disillusioned with the racing world.
In Radiator Springs, Doc serves as the town’s doctor and judge. He initially resents Lightning McQueen’s celebrity-driven attitude, but his relationship with the rookie racer eventually helps both characters confront their pasts.
Doc’s story draws on the real Hudson Hornet, an American car known for its “step-down” design and success in early stock-car racing. Paul Newman provided Doc’s voice in the first film, one of his final major acting roles.
