In Pixar’s Cars 3, Cruz Ramirez drives the final race for the Rust-eze team after Lightning McQueen changes roles.
Cruz begins Cars 3 as Lightning’s trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center. She is highly skilled with simulation technology but has never competed as a top-level professional racer. Her own ambitions are limited by the expectations placed on her.
During the Florida 500, Lightning realizes that Cruz has the speed and talent to challenge Jackson Storm. He switches into a crew-chief role and encourages her to race. Cruz uses Lightning’s number 95 and wins the final contest against Storm.
The ending does not simply erase Lightning’s career. Instead, it shows him passing forward the lessons he received from Doc Hudson while continuing as Cruz’s mentor. Cruz’s victory is therefore both a racing result and the conclusion of her personal character arc.
