Cruz Ramirez races with number 51 in Pixar’s *Cars 3*. She begins as Lightning McQueen’s high-performance trainer, using simulators, telemetry and exercise drills to prepare him for competition against younger racers.
Cruz has always dreamed of racing, but she was discouraged by the belief that she did not fit the traditional image of a champion. During the Florida 500, McQueen gives her the opportunity to compete in his place. She adopts his number 95 briefly, then races under number 51 after taking control of the team’s entry.
Cruz’s yellow design and energetic personality make her a visual contrast to Jackson Storm’s dark, aerodynamic body. Her victory over Storm completes the film’s message that experience, encouragement and opportunity can open racing careers to newcomers.
