Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix in Pixar’s Cars 2.
The World Grand Prix is a three-race international competition organized by Miles Axlerod. Lightning races for the United States, competing against drivers from several countries and territories in a contest intended to promote Allinol alternative fuel.
The event visits Tokyo, Porto Corsa, and London. Its international structure gives Cars 2 a much broader setting than the first film, which centers mainly on Radiator Springs and the Piston Cup racing world.
The World Grand Prix also connects the racing plot to the espionage story. Mater uncovers evidence that the races and Allinol are part of a larger scheme. The name is sometimes confused with the Piston Cup, Lightning’s main championship in the first and third films, but the World Grand Prix is the specific competition created for Cars 2.
