In personal finance, what report lists a person’s borrowing and repayment history?

The story behind the answer

In personal finance, a report listing a person’s borrowing and repayment history is called a credit report.

Credit reports can contain identifying information, credit-account details, payment history, account balances, collection accounts, and inquiries, depending on the country and reporting system. Lenders use the information to help evaluate applications for credit, although a credit report is not itself a credit score.

In the United States, the three nationwide consumer reporting companies are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. Consumers can dispute inaccurate information with the relevant reporting company and the business that supplied the data.

A bank statement records transactions in a deposit account, while a credit report focuses on reported credit obligations. Reports also have legal retention and access rules that vary by jurisdiction.
