In Pandora’s myth, Prometheus gave fire to humanity before her creation. His act defied Zeus and triggered the punishment that led to Pandora’s arrival in the human world.
Prometheus is a Titan associated with forethought, craft, and humanity’s welfare. In Hesiod’s account, he tricked Zeus during a sacrificial division and later stole fire for humans. Zeus responded by hiding fire and then by arranging a broader punishment for both Prometheus and humanity.
Pandora’s creation is consequently connected to the fire myth rather than being an unrelated story. Zeus presented her to Prometheus’s brother Epimetheus, who accepted her despite Prometheus’s warning not to receive gifts from Zeus. The sequence illustrates a recurring Greek mythological theme: cleverness may bring benefits, but defying divine authority carries severe consequences.
