In Pandora’s myth, Zeus ordered the gods to create her. Hesiod presents this act as part of Zeus’s response to Prometheus, who had stolen fire and given it to human beings.
Zeus’s punishment was not limited to Prometheus himself. He arranged for Pandora to be formed by the gods and sent to humanity as a deceptive gift. Hephaestus shaped her from earth, while other deities contributed abilities, adornments, or characteristics. Hermes gave her a misleading nature and persuasive speech.
The story is therefore connected to the Greek myth of fire and the relationship between gods and humans. Pandora is not simply an independent villain: she is created and dispatched within Zeus’s plan. Later retellings often focus on her curiosity, but Hesiod places the main responsibility for the scheme with Zeus and the divine order he controls.
