In Pandora’s box mythology, which figure was Pandora’s husband?
Answer
Epimetheus
Answer
Epimetheus
Epimetheus was Pandora’s husband in the Greek myth of Pandora’s box.
Epimetheus was a Titan and the brother of Prometheus. His name is commonly interpreted as “afterthought,” contrasting with Prometheus, whose name means “foresight.” In Hesiod’s account, Prometheus warned Epimetheus not to accept any gift from Zeus, but Epimetheus accepted Pandora when she arrived.
Pandora later opened the sealed vessel associated with the myth, allowing suffering and other evils to spread among humans. This family connection is important because Pandora’s arrival is part of Zeus’s punishment of humanity after Prometheus stole fire. Epimetheus is sometimes confused with Prometheus because both are Titans and brothers, but they play opposite roles in the story: Prometheus anticipates danger, while Epimetheus acts and reflects afterward.
