In Norse mythology, Valgrind is the gate leading into Valhalla.
Valgrind is named in Grímnismál, where it is described as standing before the hall. The poem says that the gate is ancient and that few know how it is locked or opened, giving it a mysterious role in the architecture of Odin’s residence.
The gate’s name is often translated or interpreted as something like “the gate of the slain.” It belongs specifically to Valhalla’s entrance and should not be confused with the roads or bridges leading to other realms.
Gjallarbrú, for example, is a bridge associated with the journey toward the realm of the dead, while Bifröst is the rainbow bridge connecting the human world and Asgard. These structures belong to different parts of Norse cosmology.
