In Norse mythology, what are Odin’s two ravens who report news from the worlds called?
Answer
Huginn and Muninn
Answer
Huginn and Muninn
In Norse mythology, Odin’s two ravens who report news from the worlds are Huginn and Muninn.
The names are usually translated as Thought and Memory, although translations vary. In the mythological poems, Odin sends the ravens out over the world each day, and they return to tell him what they have seen. Their role connects Valhalla’s ruler with events in Midgard and the other realms.
Huginn and Muninn are not the ravens who announce Ragnarök; that role belongs to the rooster Gullinkambi in Valhalla. They are also different from Odin’s wolves, Geri and Freki. The pair appears prominently in the Poetic Edda and later in Snorri Sturluson’s Prose Edda, making them among the best-known animal companions in Norse mythology.
