In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which actor plays King Arthur?

The story behind the answer

Graham Chapman plays King Arthur in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Chapman portrays Arthur as a determined but increasingly exasperated king travelling through a deliberately absurd version of medieval Britain. He also appears as several other characters in the film, including the introductory voice associated with the production’s opening presentation.

The movie was released in 1975 and was written and performed by members of the Monty Python comedy group. Its Arthur is surrounded by comic versions of familiar Arthurian elements, including knights, castles, a quest, and a search for the Holy Grail.

John Cleese, Michael Palin, and Eric Idle also play multiple roles, which can make the cast easy to mix up. Cleese plays the Black Knight and Tim the Enchanter, Palin plays figures such as Dennis and the narrator, and Idle plays the minstrel and others.
