In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Holy Hand Grenade is said to come from Antioch.
The weapon is introduced in a mock-biblical passage that imitates formal religious narration. King Arthur receives instructions for using it against the killer rabbit guarding a cave, turning a medieval relic quest into an absurd military briefing.
The grenade’s wording echoes Christian language, including a deliberately comic counting ritual. Arthur and his knights are told to count to three, while explicitly avoiding four and stopping before five.
Antioch was a real ancient city and an important center of early Christianity. It was located near modern Antakya in Turkey. The film uses the historical name to give its fictional explosive an exaggerated sacred pedigree.
