Monty Python and the Holy Grail was released in 1975.
The British comedy follows King Arthur and his knights as they pursue the Holy Grail through a deliberately absurd version of medieval Britain. The film was written and performed by members of Monty Python, including Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin.
Its first release took place in the United Kingdom on 3 April 1975. Although made on a modest budget, the film became one of the most celebrated comedies in British cinema and developed a lasting international following.
The year is sometimes confused with 1974, when filming began, or 1977, when the Monty Python team released another major film, Monty Python’s Life of Brian. The Grail comedy itself belongs to 1975.
