In Monopoly, what happens when a player rolls doubles three times in a row?

The story behind the answer

In Monopoly, a player who rolls doubles three times in a row goes directly to Jail.

The rule applies during one turn sequence. A player normally rolls again after rolling doubles, but the third consecutive doubles roll ends the movement immediately and sends the token to the Jail space. The player does not continue moving according to that third roll.

This rule is separate from landing on the Go to Jail space or drawing a card that says “Go directly to Jail.” In all three cases, the player is sent to Jail, but the trigger is different. A player sent to Jail by three doubles also does not collect $200 for passing GO.

The doubles rule limits the advantage of repeated extra rolls and adds risk to a player's turn. Once in Jail, the player can leave by rolling doubles, paying a $50 fine, or using a Get Out of Jail Free card, subject to the standard rules and timing.
