In "Mary Poppins", the Banks family lived on what street?

The story behind the answer

In “Mary Poppins,” the Banks family lived at Number 17 Cherry Tree Lane. The fictional London address is the setting for the Banks household and for Mary Poppins’s arrival by the East Wind.

The family consists of George and Winifred Banks, their children Jane and Michael, and, in the original story, the infant twins John and Barbara. Their home is presented as a respectable but increasingly chaotic Edwardian household, where the children need a new nanny after Katie Nanna leaves.

Cherry Tree Lane is more than just an address: it anchors the story’s neighborhood atmosphere. Bert, the cheerful one-man-band artist and chimney sweep, introduces the street in the 1964 Disney film, while the nearby park becomes the setting for several memorable adventures. The street is fictional within the story, although a real Cherry Tree Lane exists in London.

P. L. Travers introduced the Banks family in her 1934 book “Mary Poppins.” The Disney film retains the address, though it expands Mr. Banks’s role and gives the family’s emotional transformation a larger place in the plot.
