In J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology, the language he created for the High Elves is Quenya.
Quenya is one of Tolkien’s best-developed Elvish languages. He based aspects of its sound and structure especially on Finnish, while also drawing on other linguistic interests. In the fictional history, Quenya developed from the speech of the Elves who traveled to Valinor and became associated with the High Elves, or Eldar.
Quenya remains important in names, poetry, ceremonial speech, and titles throughout Tolkien’s legendarium. It is not the same as Sindarin, another major Elvish language that became more commonly spoken in Middle-earth. Tolkien also invented languages for other peoples, including Khuzdul for the Dwarves and the Black Speech for Sauron’s servants. The famous inscription on the One Ring is written in the Black Speech, not Quenya.
