In J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, what is the name of the powerful Elf realm ruled by Galadriel?

The story behind the answer

Lothlórien is the powerful Elven realm ruled by Galadriel in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium.

Lothlórien lies east of the Misty Mountains, between the rivers Anduin and Celebrant. Its Elves are known as Galadhrim, and the realm is protected and guided by Galadriel and Celeborn. The Fellowship enters Lothlórien after escaping Moria, finding shelter among its mallorn trees.

Galadriel’s mirror and her gift-giving scene are among the best-known episodes set there. She gives members of the Fellowship objects that later assist them, including a phial of light to Frodo and Sam and boats for their journey down the Anduin.

Lothlórien is sometimes confused with Rivendell, another Elven refuge. Rivendell is ruled by Elrond and lies west of the Misty Mountains; Lothlórien is associated with Galadriel and the golden mallorn forest. The realm’s name appears in several forms, including Lórien, but Lothlórien is the standard answer for the kingdom in this context.
