J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series ends with an epilogue set nineteen years after the main events.
The epilogue appears at the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It takes place at King’s Cross station, where Harry and Ginny’s children are preparing to travel to Hogwarts. Ron and Hermione are also shown as a family, linking the next generation to the original central trio.
The time jump follows the defeat of Lord Voldemort in the Battle of Hogwarts. Rather than narrating every intervening year, Rowling uses the epilogue to show that the surviving characters have built adult lives and families after the conflict.
The number is sometimes misremembered as a round twenty years. Rowling’s wording makes the interval nineteen years, and the epilogue’s date is associated with 1 September 2017. The final scene therefore connects the original story with a new generation of Hogwarts students.
