In James Dashner's dystopian novel The Maze Runner, the protagonist's name is Thomas.
Thomas arrives in the Glade with no memory of his life before the maze. Like the other boys, he initially remembers only his first name, while the surrounding community has developed routines for surviving inside the enclosed settlement.
Newt, Gally, and Minho are separate Gladers. Minho is the lead Runner, Gally is a prominent and hostile member of the group, and Newt is one of its respected leaders. Their names are therefore common alternatives in quizzes, but none identifies the protagonist.
The novel was published in 2009 and is the first book in Dashner's Maze Runner series. Thomas's investigation of the maze and his growing resistance to the system drive the plot.
