In James Cameron’s *Avatar*, the Na’vi clan led by Neytiri’s family is the Omaticaya. The clan lives in and around the giant Hometree on Pandora.
Neytiri is the daughter of Eytukan, the Omaticaya clan leader, and Mo’at, the clan’s spiritual leader. Jake Sully becomes involved with the Omaticaya after Neytiri saves him and begins teaching him the Na’vi language, customs, and relationship with Pandora’s living environment.
The Omaticaya are central to the film’s conflict with the Resources Development Administration, or RDA. The corporation wants access to unobtanium beneath the Hometree, while the clan resists the destruction of its home. Their struggle forms the main human–Na’vi conflict of the 2009 film.
The Omaticaya are sometimes confused with the Metkayina, the reef-dwelling clan introduced in *Avatar: The Way of Water*. They are also distinct from the Olangi, a clan associated with the open plains and direhorses. These groups all belong to Pandora’s Na’vi peoples but have different homes and traditions.
